The Character Of A Christian: A Study of the Beatitudes

Synopsis

The Beatitudes are the first twelve verses of the Sermon on the Mount, which is presented in chapters five through seven of Matthew's Gospel. Many scholars consider the Sermon on the Mount to be a collection of the sayings, teaching, and preaching of Jesus in various places during His life time, as some quotations from it may be found in the other three Gospels.

The wisdom of the Sermon on the Mount was given to Jesus' disciples to help them evidence the differences the life of one who has been "born from above" should be to verify citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven. The Beatitudes are not regulations proscribed for a follower of Jesus, but guides in relationships with all people under diverse circumstances.

The most important of the theological interpretations of conviction, repentance, submission, commitment, compassion, forgiveness, purity, peace and persecution are presented in simplistic ways to inspire the followers of Jesus to demonstrate the Presence of the God of love in their lives. The behavior of those who claim Jesus as Savior and Lord of their lives should evidence the qualities and principles that are presented in the Beatitudes, as the foundation of the religious focus of living in the Image of Jesus.
