Of Wizards and Stones
Synopsis
Of Wizards and Stones concerns
a young woman (early twenties) who unwittingly becomes a focal point in the discovery and recovery of three Stones.
These are the Soul of the Land, Soul of the Air, and Soul of the Water. The wizards created them to regulate the
environment for the people who reside there, but due to a prolonged war between the three wizards, the Stones became
misplaced.
Each Stone is attended to by a
Wizard and a Keeper, who use the power of the Stones to benefit their people. The Wizard is male, while the
Keepers are female. Through the “magic” of the wizards, anything needed can be produced, such as glowstones to
illuminate the homes at night. The current level of development is that similar to early 1500’s in rural England,
with the population centers consisting of sparsely scattered, hamlets and villages, without heavy industrial
machines.
The war started when Abysant,
Wizard of the Land, who wanted to leave the Stones in place, but aid the population by increasing their level of
technology, Kenson, Wizard of the Water who felt that the Stones should be removed entirely and allow the natural
order of things to take place, and Veritor, Wizard of the Air, who thought they should leave everything alone and
to continue the current level of technology, could not agree. Many cycles have past since the hostilities ended,
but since the wizards have not been seen, no one knows who won.
The Rider Lanya became involved
when she was assigned to deliver a packet to the Lady of the Wood, Keeper of the Land Stone. Although the content
of the packet is unknown to Lanya, she soon discovers that she has delivered the first of the missing artifacts.
Still reeling from the first discovery, she is informed of the true history of the people as well as her part in
it. Her mission intensifies when she is instructed to locate the three missing wizards, the other two Stones and
the wizard’s prime apprentices.
Through several twists, the story
concludes with yet another twist, as she finds that her destiny is not where she had always believed it to be.
Author Biography
Kathy Williams
Writing has always been something
enjoyable. At the age of 14 my first short story was published in a very small local paper. By the time I had
reached high school, I was writing a weekly column for the Future Farmers of America in the local evening paper
while taking journalism classes. Several poems were printed in the class yearbook.
The Da Vinci Papers is my most
recent work.
